Evaluation of Squad Members

 

Selection for the HKGA Junior Squad

1. Eligibility

a. Must be a Hong Kong resident or holder of a HKID card

b. Must be a holder of a valid HKGA handicap card

c. Must be under the age of 18

2. Selection Method to join HKGA Junior Squad

a. Performance at recognized local tournaments: Hong Kong Junior Close Championship, Hong Kong Junior Open Championship, JCKSC Junior Open, Winter Junior Championship                                  OR

b. Recruit from HKGA Junior Golfers Talent Identification Day (Annually)     OR

c. Recommendation by PGA and/or Golf Club Professionals                       OR

d. Recommendation by the HKGA Golf Development Director, Lead Coach and Coach​

3. Selection Criteria to join HKGA Junior Squad

a. HKGA Junior Golfers Talent Identification Day

i. Past tournaments results

ii. Evaluation of golf swing (driver, mid iron and short iron)

iii. Golf knowledge

iv. Athletic ability

v. Communication skills and overall behavior including a basic knowledge of the Rules of Golf

b. Tournament results from Hong Kong Junior Close Championship, Hong Kong Junior Open Championship, JCKSC Junior Open and Winter Junior Championship

4. Selection Committee Members

a. Men’s and/or Ladies’ Captain of Hong Kong Golf Association

b. Golf Development Director, Lead Coach and Coach of Hong Kong Golf Association

c. Chairman of the Junior Committee

5. Responsibility of Junior Squad

a. Must attend weekly training class (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

b. Must maintain an attendance rate of 80% or above at weekly training class or maintain an acceptable attendance record of on-course practice for each quarter (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

c. Must have participated in at least two (2) of the local tournaments: Hong Kong Junior Close Championship, Hong Kong Junior Open Championship, JCKSC Junior Open and Winter Junior Championship (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

d. Show commitment to golf and continued improvement

e. Good attitude and discipline

f. Must comply with the HKGA Code of Conduct

g. Must maintain the following handicap index level regarding to their age group

Junior Squad Members

7-8 years old Boys and Girls                (Handicap required) 

9-10 years old Boys and Girls              (25 or less)     

11-12 years old Boys and Girls             (20 or less)     

13-14 years old Boys (10 or less)         13-14 years old Girls (12 or less)      

15-17 years old Boys (7 or less)           15-17 years old Girls (9 or less)        

These Handicap levels should serve as a realistic and attainable goal for each one of our squad members who must be motivated and goal oriented to achieve better results

*HKGA reserves the right to amend the above rules and make final decisions as regards selection.

Selection for the HKGA Elite Junior Squad

1. Eligibility

a. Must be a Hong Kong resident or holder of a HKID card

b. Must be a holder of a valid HKGA handicap card

c. Age between 11-17 years old

2. Criteria to be promoted to Elite Junior Squad

a. Must be a member of HKGA Junior Squad or approved by HKGA

b. Performance at recognized local tournaments: Hong Kong Close Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Close Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Open Championship, Hong Kong Junior Close Championship, Hong Kong Junior Open Championship, JCKSC Amateur Open, JCKSC Junior Open and Winter Junior Championship

c. Performance in overseas tournaments

d. Recommendation by the HKGA Golf Development Director, Lead Coach and Coach

3. Responsibility of Elite Junior Squad

a. Must attend weekly training class (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

b. Must maintain an attendance rate of 80% or above at weekly training class or maintain an acceptable attendance record of on-course practice for each quarter (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

c. Must have participated in at least three (3) of the local junior tournaments and at least one (1) of the local Men’s or Ladies’ tournaments: Hong Kong Close Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship, JCKSC Amateur Open, Hong Kong Ladies’ Close Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Open Championship, Hong Kong Junior Close Championship, Hong Kong Junior Open Championship, JCKSC Junior Open and Winter Junior Championship (unless otherwise approved  by the HKGA)

d. Must have a sound knowledge of the Rules of Golf and attend at least one seminar a year on the Rules of Golf and practical demonstration

e. Show commitment to golf and continued improvement

f. Good attitude and discipline

g. Must comply with the HKGA Code of Conduct

h. Must maintain the following handicap index level regarding to their age group

Elite Junior Squad Members

11-12 years old Boys and Girls             (15 or less)     

13-14 years old Boys (8 or less)           13-14 years old Girls (10 or less)      

15-17 years old Boys (5 or less)           15-17 years old Girls (7 or less)        ​

These Handicap levels should serve as realistic and attainable goal for each one of our squad members who must be motivated and goal oriented to achieve better results

Selection for the HKGA Men’s and Ladies’ Squad

1. Eligibility

a. Must be a Hong Kong resident or holder of a HKID card

b. Must be a holder of a valid HKGA handicap card

c. Age 18 or above

2. Criteria to be promoted to Men’s and Ladies’ Squad

a. Must be a member of HKGA Junior / Elite Junior Squad (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

b. Performance at recognized local tournaments: Hong Kong Close Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Close Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Open Championship and JCKSC Amateur Open

c. Performance in Overseas tournaments

d. Recommendation by the HKGA Golf Development Director, Lead Coach and Coach

3. Responsibility of Men’s and Ladies’ Squad

a. Must attend weekly squad games twice a month (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

b. Must have participated in at least two (2) for Men Team and one (1) for Ladies Team of the local Men’s or Ladies’ tournaments: Hong Kong Close Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Close Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Open Championship, JCKSC Amateur Open (unless otherwise approved  by the HKGA)

c. Must have a sound knowledge of the Rules of Golf and attend at least one seminar a year on the Rules of Golf and practical demonstration

d. Show commitment to golf and continued improvement

e. Good attitude and discipline

Selection for the HK National Team

1. Eligibility

a. Must be a Hong Kong resident, holder of a HKID card or holder of a HKSAR passport

b. Must be holder of valid HKGA handicap card

2. Criteria to be promoted to National Squad

a. Must be a member of HKGA Elite Junior Squad / Men’s and Ladies’ Squad (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

b. Performance at recognized local tournaments: Hong Kong Close Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Close Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Open Championship, Hong Kong Junior Close Championship, Hong Kong Junior Open Championship, JCKSC Amateur Open, JCKSC Junior Open and Winter Junior Championship

c. Performance in Overseas tournaments

d. Recommendation by the HKGA Golf Development Director, Lead Coach and Coach

3. Responsibility of National Squad

a. Must attend weekly training class and Sunday Squad Game (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

b. Must maintain an attendance rate of 80% or above at weekly training class or maintain an acceptable attendance record of on-course practice for each quarter (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

c. Must have participated in the following local tournaments for Men’s National Squad members over 18 years old: Hong Kong Close Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship, JCKSC Amateur Open (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

d. Must have participated in the following local tournaments for Ladies’ National Squad members over 18 years old: Hong Kong Ladies’ Close Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Open Championship (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

e. Must have participated in the following local tournaments for National Squad members under 18 years old: Hong Kong Close Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Close Championship, Hong Kong Ladies’ Open Championship, JCKSC Amateur Open, JCKSC Junior Open and Winter Junior Championship (unless otherwise approved by the HKGA)

f. Must have a good knowledge of the Rules of Golf and attain at least the Level 1 R&A accreditation in a locally held exam

g. Show commitment to golf and continued improvement

h. Good attitude and discipline

i. Must comply with the HKGA Code of Conduct

j. Must maintain the following handicap index level regarding to their age group

National Team Members

Men  (3 or less)

Ladies (5 or less)

These Handicap levels should serve as realistic and attainable goal for each one of our squad members who must be motivated and goal oriented to achieve better results

Evaluation and Requirements of all Squad Members

1. The purpose of setting up the HKGA Squad is to train and develop junior golfers to eventually represent the Hong Kong National Team to participate in tournaments. In view of this, all players must achieve certain standards or will be subject to losing their spot on the Squad

2. If a Squad member is lacking tournament participation or attendance at squad training without approval from the HKGA or cannot maintain the level of handicap index, a warning letter will be given to the squad member. If there is no significant improvement within 3 months, he / she will be removed from the Squad.

3. Any Squad member who received any warning letter in previous times, HKGA reserve the right to remove any squad once not fulfills the requirement without any other prior notification.

4. If a Squad member has disciplinary and/or attitude problems, he / she may be removed from the Squad

5. Any Squad member who hasn’t been promoted to the Men’s and Ladies’ Squad / National Squad by the age of 18 will be removed from the squad automatically

6. National Coaches of HKGA reserve the right to remove any Squad member at any time

7. All members can regain their spot in the squad through future tournament performance

a. Men’s and/or Ladies’ Captain of the Hong Kong Golf Association

d. Chairman of the Junior/International Committee

3. Major Games/Team Events:

(National Games)
(South East Asian Team Championships /Queen Sirikit Cup/ Asia-Pacific Amateur Golf Team Championship (Nomura Cup)/ 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade)

a. Men’s and/or Ladies’ Captain of the Hong Kong Golf Association

b. Golf Development Director of the Hong Kong Golf Association

c. Lead Coach and Coach of the Hong Kong Golf Association

d. Chairman of the Junior/International Committee

e. Committee members of the Junior/International Committee

Tournament Selection Process

1. The Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) will circulate approved tournament lists to relevant members of the Men’s, Ladies’, Elite Junior and Junior squad/s;

2. The HKGA Men’s, Ladies’, Elite Junior and Junior squad lists will be developed and approved by the Junior/International Committee annually;

3. The HKGA will inform squad members of the number of spots available, tournament information, departure and return dates and specific selection criteria for this tournament, and request them to reply in writing regarding their availability by a specified date;

4. The Selection Committee will select from the available squad members based on the specific criteria for each tournament;

5. The HKGA will inform the selected players and announce the selection results to the rest of the squad/s.

Tournament Selection Criteria

1. Entry requirements set by the tournament organiser;

2. World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR);

3. Tournament results and overall performance of the player up to the selection date;

4. Participation and commitment to the team;

5. Discipline and attitude of the player;

6. The Selection Committee may consider players other than members of the HKGA Men’s, Ladies’, Elite Junior and Junior squads who have had recent outstanding results

7. The Selection Committee reserves the right to make the final decision as to whether or not to send players to overseas tournaments

Right of Appeal

1. A player may appeal the decision of the Selection Committee to the Executive Committee by giving a written notice to HKGA within 21 days of the date of decision by the Selection Committee being communicated to him/her.   

2. Upon receiving the request, the Executive Committee must determine whether to:

a. Dismiss the appeal; or

b. Convene a hearing in relation to the appeal.

3. In the event of a hearing, the Executive Committee will hear the appeal at such a time and in such a manner as the Executive Committee deems appropriate.  A quorum of at least three members of the Executive Committee must be present to hear an appeal. 

Hearing

1. If the Executive Committee determines to convene a hearing in relation to the appeal, it must give at least 21 days written notice to the player stating:

a. The date, time and place at which it will hear and determine the appeal;

b. That the player is entitled to be assisted or represented by one other person or parent (if the player is Under 18 years of age).

2. If the player is not present at the hearing, the Executive Committee may:

a. Proceed to hear and determine the appeal; or

b. Adjourn the hearing of the appeal for such period determined by the Executive Committee and must give written notice of the time and place when the hearing will resume.

3. If the player is present, he/she may give evidence and bring any relevant witnesses to support his/her case.

4. After the presentation of evidence and hearing any final submissions by the player the Executive Committee shall make such determination as it shall see fit in the circumstances. 

5. The decision of the Executive Committee will, in its discretion, either be:

a. Announced at the conclusion of the appeal; or

b. Communicated in writing to the player within 30 days of the conclusion of the appeal.

8. The Executive Committee’s decision is final.
